Dongmyeong Cafe Street |
Dongmyeong-dong was a representative residential area of
Gwangju, which consisted of high-end houses and old hanoks, but once
suffered a recession as old downtown area. However, it has recently
become an unusual alley as it has been transformed into an unusual
cafe, restaurant, and various cultural spaces that have recently
renovated old houses such as hanok. Recently, it has been called
'Dongridan-gil' by young people in line with Seoul's accounting
'Kyungridan-gil'. It is located between Asian Cultural Complex and
blue road, and it is a hot place in Donggu where you can enjoy, taste
and heal. |

Since 2014, places nearby city hall has been
developed as a food theme tour area where visitors can taste and
experience various foods and cultures of Asia. It is now popular as a
nighttime food alley for young people and Asian restaurants(such
as Chinese and Japanese restaurants) are increasing after the opening
of Cultural Complex. Now city plans to attract foreign
restaurants(such as Vietnamese and Thai restaurants) run by young
chefs with innovative ideas, and provide tourists with abundant food
and attractions through food culture festivals. |
Mudeungsan Borybab Street (Jisan Amusement Park, Jeungsimsa) |
The nostalgia for boiled barley mixed with kochujang and
wild vegetables which were collected from Mt. Mudeung Mountain, and
the gentle heart of the Nam-do continue to Mudeungsan
Borybab Street. Barley rice with cool Dongdongju after climbing Mt.
Mudeung is more delicious than any other feast. In particular, this
area has been designated as an excellent food service district since
2015, and each business is making efforts to develop various menus
that meet the taste of tourists. |
Daein Art Night Market |
The Daein Art Night Market, which is held every Saturday from
7 pm to 11 pm, exhibited art works using empty stores through the
'Bokdeokbang Project' of the Gwangju Biennale in 2008, and this led a
market where culture, art and commercial areas to coexist. Tourists
can see the works of art by young artists, and there are plenty of
enjoyment such as art works produced by citizen sellers and rich rice
soup retaining the emotions of traditional market. In particular,
Daein Night Market was selected as one of the 100 best tourist
destinations in Korea this year. |
Namgwangju Night Train Night Market |
The night market of Namgwangju Night Train, which runs every
Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to 11 pm, was a gathering place for
South Korean aquatic products. Merchants from Yeosu and Bulgyo had
carried out their bags and took trains to
open a (street) stall hear and sell fish, octopus, and
skewer. The arcade ceiling, which keeps the nostalgia of Namgwangju
Station in the past by embodying the sky of starry night, and the food
stand modeling 'night train' are the only attractions to be seen here.
Especially this place is the emerging night market where tourists can
enjoy various foods using Nam-do aquatic products. |
